What’s New In The July 2024 Payara Platform Release

Payara

We’re pleased to announce the latest releases of Payara Platform, bringing a range of updates across our Enterprise 5 and 6 editions as well as Community. These updates include bug fixes, performance optimizations, security enhancements and component upgrades to help you ensure your Jakarta EE and MicroProfile applications continue to run smoothly and effectively.

Key Highlights:

  • Enhanced Security: Payara Platform Enterprise 5.65.0 introduces a significant improvement in OpenID authentication by adding the ‘extraParametersExpression’ parameter to the ‘@OpenIdAuthenticationDefinition’ in the Payara API. This enhancement provides you with greater flexibility and control over the authentication process.
  • Simplified Configuration: All three Payara Platform releases streamline Hazelcast configuration by adding support for the YAML format. The incorporation of this user-friendly, human-readable data serialization language simplifies the management of Hazelcast settings, making it easier to configure, maintain and optimise your applications on the Payara Platform.
  • Streamlined Deployment: The deployment process has been streamlined with the introduction of the “Auto Name Deployment Group” feature. This automation simplifies the naming process for deployment groups, reducing manual effort and potential errors.
  • Community Contributions: Payara Platform continues to foster a vibrant community of developers, as evidenced by the inclusion of several community contributions in the latest releases. These contributions address issues related to datasource isolation levels, class loader leaks and JDWP agent addresses, demonstrating the collaborative spirit within the Payara ecosystem. You can also watch the Open Source Community Contribution roundtable discussion in our recent Virtual Payara Conference here to learn about how you can start contributing to the vibrant open source communities out there.
  • Component Upgrades: The releases include various component upgrades, such as JNA, Felix SCR, Jakarta Web API, Jakarta XML Registries Resource Adaptor, Felix Web Console, EclipseLink ASM, Jakarta XML WS API, Kotlin Stdlib, Exousia and Arquillian Connectors. These upgrades ensure compatibility with the latest technologies while enhancing overall platform performance and security.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

In addition to the highlighted features, the July releases address numerous bug fixes and improvements across all three platforms. These fixes resolve issues related to datasource exceptions, data grid instance startup, asadmin command failures, incomplete war file deployments, data grid member visibility and Hazelcast encryption settings. These enhancements contribute to a more stable and reliable Payara Platform experience.
