Jakarta EE 11 is Here – And It’s Ready for the Cloud!

Jakarta EE 11 - Coming Soon

Earlier today, the Eclipse Foundation together with its vendor members, partners and community has announced the release of Jakarta EE 11, the latest version of its enterprise Java platform. Building on the Core Profile (Dec 2024) and Web Profile (Mar 2025), this release brings powerful new features aimed at boosting developer productivity and simplifying cloud-native development.

What’s New in Jakarta EE 11?

Jakarta Data (New Spec)

A brand-new API that makes working with databases easier. It includes:

  • Built-in support for basic and CRUD operations
  • Easy pagination
  • A simple query language

Cleaner, More Modern APIs

  • Managed Beans are deprecated
  • CDI (Contexts and Dependency Injection) improvements
  • Full support for Java Records
  • Outdated Java SecurityManager references removed

Upgraded Testing Tools

  • Test Compatibility Kits (TCKs) now use JUnit 5 and Maven
  • Easier to write and run tests
  • Improved accessibility for contributors

Support for New Java Features

  • Runs on Java 17+
  • Includes concurrency improvements for Java 21, like support for Virtual Threads for better performance

Jakarta EE 11 and Payara

Looking Ahead

Work on Jakarta EE 12 is already in motion, with a release planned for 2026. The next version will fully embrace Java SE 21 and bring even more updates, including possible new specs like Jakarta Query and Jakarta MVC.
