Payara Platform 4 Enters the Lifetime Support Stage of Extended Support in First Quarter of 2025

At this point, quarterly platform updates will stop. This means there will be no new features, enhancements, or APIs added – only fixes.

Customers are advised to have contract agreements covering P4 extended support before January 2025. Otherwise, no support assistance (covering P4) can be provided to clients still using P4 without this extended support package.

Key Points About Lifetime Support for Payara Platform 4

  • To access the Lifetime Support model for Payara Platform 4, you will need to purchase a subscription, renewable annually. This is the case whether you are an existing Payara Platform 4 customer or a completely new Payara Platform 4 customer with no previous Enterprise subscription.
    • For Lifetime Support, you will pay 25% on top of the normal subscription.
    • For new customers who want to adopt or migrate to Payara Platform 4 in the first quarter of 2025, you will incur an additional, mandatory Payara Accelerator fee (of 100 units initially).

  • Your existing Nexus account will be assigned a new role that provides you with access to the Payara Platform Enterprise binaries for the major version entering Lifetime Support (4).
  • Lifetime Support is only possible while the related Java version is also supported (that is until December 2030). Plan Your Migration from Payara Platform 4 to Payara Platform 5 or 6

If you are running business critical applications on Payara Platform 4 in a production environment and want to continue receiving new features and enhancements, you should upgrade to Payara Platform 5 or 6.

We recommend that you start considering your migration strategy now.

Why You Should Upgrade from Payara Platform 4 to Payara Platform 5 or 6

Migrating to Payara Platform can help you to operate a modern and secure application server environment that addresses the latest security vulnerabilities. In addition, you can:

  1. Benefit from all the latest new features of Payara Platform 5 or 6 including:
    1. Cloud-native architecture designed to integrate with Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, and Google Cloud Platform for maximum scalability
    2. Integrated Data Grid to simply the creation of clusters ensuring high availability even under heavy traffic and data volume
    3. Support for Jakarta EE 10 and MicroProfile 6.1
    4. Monitoring and diagnostics tools for a comprehensive view of all MicroProfile and application-level metrics
  2. Avoid having to worry about whether the Java version related to Payara Platform 4 is also supported
  3. Get access to all the latest hotfixes and backported fixes
  4. Have options to deploy the latest cryptographic algorithms, strongest certificates, and latest Zulu JDKs
  5. Select from the flexible compatibility of many authorization and authentication APIs
  6. Avoid the additional fee for the Lifetime Support model and a forced upgrade later with this overall less expensive option

If you’re coming from GlassFish, you’ll notice this additional flexibility in a fully support commercial runtime:

  • Bundled Azul JDK license
  • Support for Microservices distribution, Docker images, Studio Code
  • Choices around automation options for configuration, integration or dependencies
  • Health Check, Notification Server, and Request Tracking monitoring and alert tools
  • Automation Assistance for server configuration

For peace of mind, our Services team is ready to guide you through this upgrade, help you migrate from another solution, and conduct all the necessary reconfigurations.
