What’s New In The Payara Platform July 2025 Release?

Jakarta EE
New Releases

The July 2025 release brings meaningful updates across the Payara Platform family, with improvements to database connectivity, critical bug fixes for CDI memory management, and comprehensive component upgrades.

This month’s releases include Payara Platform Community 6.2025.7 (DOWNLOAD HERE), Enterprise 6.28.0, Enterprise 5.77.0 (FREE TRIAL), and Payara 7 Alpha 3.

Key Improvements Across Editions

Enhanced Trino Driver Support

All editions now feature improved JDBC connection handling when using the Trino driver, making it easier to integrate with Trino (formerly PrestoSQL) data sources. This enhancement streamlines connectivity for organizations using Trino for distributed SQL query processing across heterogeneous data sources.

CDI Dev Mode Removal

Both Payara Platform Community 6.2025.7 and Enterprise 6.28.0 have removed CDI Dev Mode. This change streamlines the CDI implementation, reducing complexity and improving performance in production environments. Teams on these versions of Payara Platform should ensure their development workflows no longer rely on CDI Dev Mode features before upgrading. CDI Dev mode however, is still available in Payara Platform 5.

Critical Bug Fixes

CDI Memory Leak Resolution

A significant memory leak has been fixed in Payara 6 editions (Community 6.2025.7 and Enterprise 6.28.0) when using Jakarta CDI @Dependent scoped instances. This fix prevents memory accumulation over time, improving application stability in long-running deployments.

Clustered Environment Stability

Payara 6 editions also resolve an UnproxyableResolutionException error that occurred in Payara Micro clustered environments, ensuring smoother operation of distributed microservices deployments.

Documentation Correction

Thanks to community contributor pzygielo, a typo in the DependOn annotation has been corrected across all editions, improving code clarity and preventing potential confusion.
